I read somewhere that 25% of our homeless are veterans. Warriors with PTSD should never be expected to struggle for survival in the streets. I learned in this "Writing for Change" workshop, that I have a lot to learn. I have some research to do. What I see so far is that the resources for those facing homelessness are run by churches and volunteers. Call me a socialist, but I feel that we are all responsible for providing these services. Medical services...all "right to life" needs, should be assured. If we can first pull our survivors off the streets, we can next offer safety to those brave survivors willing to tell their story.
I hear far too often that nothing can be done about homelessness. Ugly propaganda. Too many are willing to step over bodies to get to the front of the line. No one deserves heaven if we can't afford it for everyone. Perhaps the elimination of homelessness will be the campaign that will change the tide, toward reinstating paradise on planet earth. We will show compassion and seeing every human as valued.
